i wanted post this incase anyone was looking for a way to bypass the exchange policy that activates the device lock pin/password lock screen. (the wm6.5 variety)
my phone was essentially double locking itself. i'd have to put in my wm6.5 device lock pin, and then my usual slide unlock, everytime the phone went sleep (even mid activity).
so i searched some threads and the registry, and believe that i've found a way to undo the mandatory exchange device lock policy. if anyone is interested in giving my reg edits a try >>>>>

now go to the.... START MENU, SETTINGS, MORE SETTINGS, LOCK (enter your pin to enter the actual menu)...you'll find that these edits un-grayed the check box for the mandatory device lock (that comes from the exchange policy). un-check the box and voila no exchange policy device locking.
let me know this works for you. (and thanks to autonymous for testing and confirming that it worked for him too.
EDIT: his exchange apparently re-pushed the server rules locking his phone with the wm6.1 screen, thus locking him out of his phone needing a flash). apparently my company's exchange server has done this, as i've had these edits for almost 2 weeks.
