Not sure what coolsilver was getting at about the radio as I haven't heard anything about the radio ROM mattering for Android.

As far as NAND boot, it is where you literally don't have Windows Mobile on the phone at all. There is a little bit of code on the internal memory of the phone that loads Android from the SD card immediately upon turning on the phone.

It is still in development, and the eventual goal is to run Android directly off the internal memory just like we do right now with Windows Mobile. There are two threads on it at the moment, with the first being the main thread with all the information in it, and the second being an updated thread with the latest builds in the first post.
