Re: Change Caller ID Number (CNID)

I'm very familiar with the Truth in Caller ID Act that is still kicking around in Congress. It's needed because Caller IDs have been abused by the likes of telemarketers and collection agencies posing as other people to mislead users. However, if you read the bill the key term is "knowingly transmit misleading or inaccurate caller identification information with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value..". (3)(B). Its actually only 1 page, so go check it out yourself.

What I'm doing is not illegal and was even setup for us on a previous carrier. The fact that I own both my cell phone's number and my office number, and that they both are representative of the calling party, and both will let you get back in touch with is in no way misleading or inaccurate.

This is also how Google Voice remains legal, and how businesses can still use a single number or even an 800 for their outgoing ANI.

But I digress... I'm looking to see if its even technically possible on a CDMA handset on the firmware or provisioning level before I drag myself through Sprint's Technical Support torture chamber.
