A word of caution make sure it has no physical or water damage or corrosion buildup (Number one problem on a malfunctioning phone). As to why you are doing this..If it works why break it..
If you are getting a sync can you move any data to and from device? if so cable is fine. Are you sure you have the correct ROM? check the one you have already installed.
1) Can you read it with any other programs?
2) Can you get to the SPC and unlock the phone with other programs?
3) Can you transfer any data with sync?
If you answered (NO) from Q. 1 and 3 then Houston we have a problem.
4) Did you but phone in "Modem" mode?
5) Did you remove the SDmemory?
If still no luck try these other options
Replace cable and or open phone and get out your magnifying glass and look for damage..
Or simply reboot and start over..
Know what com port you are on..
