Interesting. I wasn't thinking about this portion of the act...

So how does this apply to having access to the root user on your phone(let's say the Unrevoked root) - can they deny warranty claims on the basis that you have access to a user you weren't supposed to? I've maintained through this entire debate that hardware and software are different. If your backlight on your LCD dies, or your digitizer stops working, they can't go "OH YOU HAVE ROOT! WE WONT FIX" because that shouldn't apply.

I guess it really just rubs me the wrong way to think that if a carrier/company(HTC in this case) wanted to be complete jerks, they could say things like "You've installed software on your device. That's an unauthorized modification and therefor we won't support it." Now, I think this concept has been challenged in court for PCs, but I'm not sure. Anyone have any more info?
