From what I was told, here is one step that Best Buy was willing to try to get the EVO activated with my 3rd party plan.

1) We have issue activating EVO with your old plan
2) we can activate it on a new plan , and after it activated, we can " try " to add your old plan back in.
3) ME, ummm no thank you. (Once you change your plan, you cannot get it back) They was trying to trick me.
