So what I want is a fully rooted phone, and just the stock rom, but i want to remove the bloatware from the phone. Are these the right steps?
1) purchase phone
2) install android SDK
3) use toast method to do full root and unlock nand found here:

or it seems i can use this SimpleRoot...i think:

4) now heres where it gets tricky for me...the phone should be fully rooted, can i just uninstall the software/bloatware that i dont want on the phone? or do i have to flash the stock rom before i can make changes?
5)after all of this, do I stay away from all OTAs? or can I do them with peace of mind?
thats pretty much it, i dont plan on flashing a custom rom till 2.2 drops, so my plan for the phone is pretty simple rooted stock without bloatware. thanks for any help, and hopefully this thread helps someone else as well...like i said i dont need help with the actual steps, i have bookmarks for how to do them...i just need to know i got the steps right and i'm not missing anything

Personally I would go with the
but stick step 1.5 to be install HTC Sync to get the drivers on your pc...unless you have another android and already have the drivers....
You will need to be fully rooted to remove the sprint apps/bloatware..
Until the 1 click rooting thing gets better I wouldn't use it. Just because you don't really know what its doing and where its leaving off when it blows up. Just a piece of mind I guess.
Oh and yes stay away from OTA's... usually a dev on XDA will make a "safe" version that you won't lose your root status.
