Yes, it seems as if you root the phone it will stop this from happening. Pretty much once you root Sprint "doesnt have control over your phone any more". To the best of my knowledge there is a SD card fix that Devs had made. Sprint on the other hand teamed up with HTC and are releasing a Over The Air Update to fix. From the looks of
IF YOU UPDATE YOU CAN NOT ROOT!!!!! Someone is going to have to see if its still possible though.

If I do root soon it'll only be for wireless stealth tethering. The flashing on the TP2 was to fix what shouldve been a great phone. Hopefully it doesnt come to that with the evo.

Ya XDA has Froyo running somewhat smoothly. MMS Camera and 4g dont work at the moment but are looking very promising in the very near future. Tehtering is still a no go but thats what we are expecting Sprint is making it hard on that one lol. With the help of google though I think its a little more possible than we think.
