Try taking out the micoSD card or swapping it with another one. In some cases, a bad SD card can cause problems like that. Happened to me before on my TP1.
SInce you are on your second phone, I figured I'd look at something that could be common between both phones. Also, I have been having some problems with my TP2 whenever it is in its belt holster that has a magnetic flap. If I carry it in my pocket, no problem. In the holster, I get some freezups.
