One other thought, neither of you mentioned time frames but if you flash and are chugging along just fine for let's say a week or more (nothing scientific, just my own idea) and things go all wonky on you then it may not be the flash.
Mods you've made or some data corruption on your SD card could cause issues down the road after an apparent successful flash.
Just food for thought.

PS @ jspenc3-roots ROMs are ROCK SOLID so there's nothing to wait for.
