Ok let’s do this by baby steps…I will show you how to gain root access on your phone, using
ONLY your phone. I have done this and I KNOW it works. It doesn’t matter what firmware you currently have because they are all based off the same kernel, the last couple digits tell you from what region its from.
The rooting guides out there usually bundle up instructions on how to update your ROM right away too, obviously this is too confusing for some people and it will be discussed in later steps. I’m not going to take ANY credit for this what-so-ever and I’m just creating an “EASIER” step-by-step guide for you that are having trouble…if it does help I would still like a “THANKS”
NOW TO THE NITTY GRITTY!!!
On your phone…go to
menu>settings>applications make sure you check the box that says
unknown sources.
ON YOUR PHONE PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE FOLLOWING:
1.
FlashRec http://zenthought.org/system/files/a...20091107-2.apk after this has downloaded click on it to install.
2.
Linda File Manager (Search for "linda" in the Android Marketplace)
3.
Astro (Search for “.zip” in the Android Marketplace)
4.
Rooted Recovery Img http://www.4shared.com/file/25727451...eroc-v162.html Again visit this link from your phone and download to your device…simple right?
After the above steps are complete please do the following:
Go to applications and open FlashRec and press “backup” if it gives you an error just reboot the phone and try, try again. This will create a file called recovery-backup.img which is going to be basically useless to you. This file will be at the root folder of the SD card.
This is what you should see....
Go to applications and open Linda File Manager…Please navigate to “SD CARD” using, navigate to backup-recovery.img
AND DELETE IT!!!
NEXT…using the same program go to your “DOWNLOADS” folder. Please navigate to “
recovery-RA-heroc-v1.6.2.img” and
RENAME this to: “
recovery-backup.img” VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
NEXT…using LINDA MOVE the backup-recovery.img file to the root folder of your SD CARD…again
IMPORTANT!!!
Now, go back to FlashRec
***Recovery Flasher in applications*** press “RESTORE BACKUP”
You should do this...
After everything is done, take the battery out of your phone…put it in…AND do this:
Press AND hold the “home” button and then press and release power button…
DO NOT RELEASE "HOME" UNTIL YOU SEE A WEIRD SCREEN. It should remind you of a DOS screen with menu options, if you see this YOU HAVE ROOTED YOUR PHONE! Please navigate to “backup/restore” and back-up everything.
This is the screen you should see:
