From what I understand this is a limitation of CDMA hardware, NOT that the carrier purposefully hobbled the phone. Did I miss something about this?

I am in Ft. Wayne, IN and travel all over North East Indiana and North West Ohio. I have had great voice reception everywhere with the exception of a few spots where signal strength would dip low, but that was no different the Sprint and Verizon in other similar/close areas.

The only "problem" I've had with the carrier is that Edge data speeds can be horendous in certain locations. Personally, in my area, Edge data is quite a bit faster then Verizon/Sprint 1x speeds ever were, even to the point I think Edge is a little faster then Verizon/Sprint 3G here. The big difference between Verizon/Sprint and T-Mobile for me, is the fact that Verizon and Sprint have 3G EVERYWHERE in Ft. Wayne and outside city limits quite a bit, where T-Mobile is mostly 3G with Edge filling in.

I've heard that T-Mobile can't pick up AT&T 3G? Is it a hardware limitation or a service contract dispute?

So far I am really happy with T-Mobile. They obviously are still catching up to other carriers in terms of overall coverage, but so far so good.
