No, you won't be able to get insurance on it. It has to be a phone purchased from Sprint, and within so many days (30 or 60) of the initial purchase to use insurance. That's not to say that one of their Reps won't add it to your account, you'll just be S.O.L. if you try to file a claim.
Have you tried a hard reset on the device yet? If not give it a try and see what happens. Also there is a chance one of the ribbon cables is either damaged or worked its way loose. It's worth checking them out before giving up on the phone.
