He *may* actually be rooted just fine, in spite of this error. I have some input and thoughts on this (and did some searching and reading last night), as I also cannot use 'adb remount' although I *am* rooted, recovery loaded, no other problems that I have found.
I am running on a rooted stock as I gather jbearamus likely is, not a cooked ROM, and I wonder if this might be the reason only a few of us get 'operation not permitted' with that command.
Question, jbear, if you run 'adb shell' from the tools folder, and then 'su' do you get an additional prompt or an error? If you get the additional prompt, you have likely rooted just fine.
From what I have read the ability to use 'adb remount' requires a 'rooted kernel' as it is a 'protected command' (
see a reference here) -- I assume 'rooted kernel' is *not* the same as a 'rooted phone'? It seems that almost anyone with a rooted phone *can* use 'adb remount' so I have wondered if maybe all the cooked ROMs have a kernel that somehow fits the bill, while a few of us, possibly those few with rooted stock, have one that doesn't.
I can still 'adb shell' and then 'su' for root access anytime, but I get the same error when trying 'adb remount' as jbearamus and have to use the longer command inside the shell to remount the /system if needed.
Any thoughts?
