yes you can. it just means that when you go to activate your friend's tp2 on your account you are locked for another 2 years even though you didn't activate the bb on your line.

for this to work...your friend has to activate your bb on his line first thus freeing up his tp2 so that you can activate it on your line.

it doesn't work in reverse because his tp2 is linked to his account so that's why you have to do the bb activation first not second.

I used my upgrade to get an htc hero and didn't even activated since they wouldn't budge about activating it on my sero account lol...I ended up selling it or in your case you are simply switching/trading bb/tp2.

he can also sell his tp2 on ebay, buy/activate a tp1 and get a bb tour by sprint moving him out of his tp1 and into the bb tour.
