the point is that they put the work into modifying the software to make the unlocker. Those that shouldn't make a profit are companies or people that charge to unlock devices for people... if they want to do it then they should make their own unlocker. Otherwise they should pay at least some of what they make to those that did do the work.

I agree that no companies should be out there making a profit off of someone else's code. Now, can someone please explain to me how these guys are any different? They are making a profit off of HTC's hard work, and HTC's code. I understand they put in a lot of work to tweak HTC's code. But at the end of the day, it is still HTC's code, and HTC put a lot more work into it than they did. It is extremely hypocritical to say that it's okay for them to sell HTC's code as their own, simply because they tweaked it, and turn around and call it warez if anyone else tweaks it. They did not make this hard SPL "unlocker" or whatever you want to call it from scratch. They simply took HTC's code, tweaked it, and then put protections on it so nobody could use it without their permission. So I am not diswcounting what they did. I'm appreciative of what they did. I am just not understanding why it's okay for them to do it but it's considered warez if anyone else does. And I'm also not understanding where they have a right to charge for it.

If someone modifies the HTC code and makes a new unlocker then there isn't any problem here...

Why should it be taken down if someone removes the verification? Again, this is not "their" code. It is HTC's code, and they "tweaked" it, then added a verification to it. Ironically, the "tweak" they did to HTC's code in a nutshell removes the "verification" process. Their SPL basically does the same thing as HTC's only it doesn't verify that the ROM is a signed and official ROM. Do you see the irony here? It's totally okay for them to remove HTC's ROM verification process, and then add their own app verification process to HTC's software. But it's considered warez if someone then removes their app verification process from HTC's hacked software?

Again, this isn't "their" code here. This is HTC's app, tweaked by them. That is why they are requiring a "donation" instead of just flat out charging everyone. Even though there is really no difference whatsoever in the end...

Where do you draw the line though? If you have 5 lines on a family plan, that is not commercial but will they see it that way? And what makes it okay for them to use HTC's code commercially anyway, especially if they have a problem with anyone else doing the exact same thing.

The problem is, someone else already posted an unlocked version and it was removed. And cmonex just told me it would be considered warez and removed if anyone else did it again. So I am left to assume that these guys have the mods in check. For some reason the mods agree that it would be warez.
Let me ask you this- why would anyone else take the time to work on a hspl when the mods have already permanently removed the unlocked one that was posted here? And now we have cmonex coming into this thread announcing that it would be considered warez and removed again- why would anyone even bother?
Having said all of that- I did pay for mine. Even though I am a residential customer, I still paid- twice.
