I actually got a call back from Tech Support once. The guy was really nice. He had to call me back twice, once to confirm that he was able to get his manager to override the "go to the store" policy and do an Advanced Exchange over the phone. The second time to tell me my address had been updated in their system (they had an old one) and that my phone would ship.

UPDATE:
I went to another ASC. Really nice gal there looked at the phone for me. I told her it wasn't marking my texts as read properly. She took it back and came back a few minutes later agreeing it was screwed up, and that she thought a hard reset would fix it.

I knew the problem was in Sprint's new ROM, but just played along. Of course, it didn't fix it, so she offered to replace the phone. She said there was a list of phones I could swap it for, INCLUDING THE TP2, but that it was OOS and had been for a while, and she didn't know when or if it would ever be back in stock for the service centers.

So I looked at all the other phones and asked her about them, just playing along, but as we all know, they're huge downgrades, so I made that clear to her, and I accepted her to order me another TP. I know it will ALSO have the same text problem (if it doesn't have OTHER problems), so at that point, I am going to press her for a TP2 or something that isn't a downgrade. I know the stores can override normal procedure and order a new one, or give me one from the store's stock, because other people have said it's happened.

I am actually kinda miffed at this text problem, it's really annoying. Normally I'd just flash a cooked ROM on there, but I'd have to turn right around and put the stock one on there when I inevitably have to return the phone again.

I am also wondering: What if I bought a brand new TP2, and a week later, it had some terminal defect that required Sprint to replace it. What would they do if they're out of stock? Offer the same crappy phones or a TP, or else you're out of luck? Surely there's some procedure in place for giving the customer a NIB phone that isn't just the store eating the loss.
