For some reason the "my location" itself does not have the ability to initiate a data session, but weather does. You can initiate one on your own like billyapd21 siad or...
So long as you have at least one city set in the weather tab it will initiate a data session when you hit "update now" or automatically if you have that option enabled. Here's what i do. I set two cities in the wx tab (Ft Worth and Atlanta b/c i live in FTW but work in ATL). Then I set My Location on the World Clock page (I also leave the wx tab on first position as well which is "my location") ... that way when i hit "update now" it will initiate a data session and download the weather for all three (my location, FTW, and ATL). So what ever city I'm actually in.. ie a suburb of FTW... will show on my home screen once updated and will also be in the first position of my wx tab.

any insight into the email notification?
