As far as the shield goes, if you got it from them directly, they will replace the shield.
I got one on my Iphone replaced 4 times due to defective phone, and they replaced it all 4 times. They do charge for shipping, and you have to return the old used one each time though.

I bought the shield from Invisible Shield. Verizon doesn't sell the full body covers.

I tried another hard reset and multiple soft resets and still no luck. I just don't understand it. It worked fine when I first got it and I never bumped the cord when it was inserted into the phone.
