Maybe PS works for me because of the way I have the options set.

I uncheck EVERYTHING in the phone screen so all it does is lock/unlock, give notifications & nothing else. I can't imagine the light sensor not working for anyone, mine will unlock in almost no light at all(I calibrated it that way) & if it's really dark I just slide my finger down the screen.

There about 8 other ways it will unlock also, it just depends what settings you choose.
