if you're looking to back up your data...you might want to give google sync a chance...
unless of course you're not comfy with google having so much of your info...
I have my GCal, Gmail, and GoogleContacts all pushed to my TP2 thru active sync...no significant battery draw down...and have been working nicely.
PPCPim backup is the way to go...it is a stand alone .exe that resides on your SD card...no cab to install...you can take that app and backed up contacts from phone to phone.
