What's the source of your MP3s? Could indeed be bad - sounds fishy tho. Could be the card as well - esp. if the unit powers off while the player still has the file "open" - if it tries to access the file right after power-on it may not properly wait for the card to power up, causing a hang/crash.

I've not personally seen this happen myself, and I do play mp3s off my card a lot (via tmpmp)
