The Palm Pre is Sprint's "Halo" device, meaning they are trying to milk the exclusivity of the device as much as possible.

I've recently helped a couple friends renew their Sprint contracts. My best advice: Play Hardball. If you are off-contract, then you have a strong negotiating position. If you have been with Sprint a few years, even better. And since you have SERO, you probably have been with Spring a long time. Use all this to your advantage. Threaten to leave Sprint for AT&T or T-Mobile if they do not agree. Then let them sweat a day or two before calling back to resume the negotiation.

It may work, or it may not. Still, never accept a 'No' from someone who can't say 'Yes'.
