The first thing a rep tells you is always the truth. If you insist on answer you'll hear what you want to hear. Reps do this to get "but why" customers off the phone.

Note: "but why" customers are those that when you tell them you don't have specific answer they say "but why". They are highly irrational and usually calm to the point of aggravating.
