Perhaps this might help you...
If you go to
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting
Change the option HiddenModeOperationPage from 1 to 0
Then go to Phone/menu/option/service/and check in the list,
"Mode of Operation" should be at the bottom. You have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO, and 1X.
If you switch to EVDO only though, you won't get calls since, from what I understand, uses 1x. I usually leave mine on Hybrid unless I'm wanting to conserve battery and/or in a poor reception area in which case I switch to 1x.
