When I left Verizon I ported my numbers over to Sprint BEFORE I cancelled my Verizon account. This should not be a problem for you to do either. Number porting is very common and is your right to do so whenever you chose as long as the provider you chose can use the number on their network for the area you live. Bottom line is... you will have no problem porting your number over to Sprint or any other carrier for that matter.
