Noob Questions!

Hey, I just bought a XV6700, it's in the mail now, and I have a few questions before I get it.

1. I have Verizon, and I do not have the unlimited data plan, therefore I'll only be using WiFi for internet. I know you can do the password thing on EV-DO, so that way my phone will ask before it connects, which is good because I do send a lot of Pix/Flix messages which require EV-DO. My question, if I do the password thing, and I am not connected to EV-DO, how will I be able to receive a Pix/Flix message?

2. I've done my reading, and I believe if I want my today screen to look like this, then I'll need that skin and Wisbar 2 Advance. I've also see screenshots where the dial numbers are different, is that also part of the skin?

3. Also with the above skin (this), it uses a weather plugin or something. I would really want that on mine, but again, I don't want to use data, so is there a weather plugin out there that only updates when I am connected to WiFi or something, and doesn't auto update and use the VZW network?

4. In terms of games, are there any good ones out there?

5. Are there any IRC clients for PPC?

Thanks for the help in advance!

I don't have all the answers but I'll contribute with what I have...

1.- Not sure, I do not have Verizon. Are Pix/Flix messages MMS's??? Because if they are, I thought they were transmitted through regular phone connection and not EV-DO. I may be wrong though...

2.- Weatherpanel has an option you can uncheck that makes the program connect to update if there's no connection. So basically, you'd be telling WP not to start a connection and since you'll be offline it won't be an issue. Then just update manually when you are connected to Wi-Fi and you are set.

4.- Don't really game on my device so I wouldn't know...

5.- I know there's a client, but I don't use it... so I don't know where to get it from. I ran a search but came empty handed.

Yeah, over at HowardForums.com there is a big discussion about avoiding data charges by disabling or making EV-DO (#777) ask to connect. It also states that Pix/Flixs are MMS and ARE transmitted through EV-DO, which I'm not sure is true, I'll test it here in a bit, I'll force my e815 into 1x only and see if I can send a picture.

Thanks for answering, I was really only worried about WeatherPanel, useful program it looks like, and I didn't want it racking up charges!
