OCR Recognition

Sprint's software includes Worldcard Mobile. Since this program will scan and recognize characters from business cards. Is the Touch Pro capable of extending this to more character recognition from larger documents?

I would think that it could be possible.
But then you have to think about the fact
that the business card is usually held kinda close,
and then it scans it.
So since you'd have to hold the phone farther away to get the whole sheet of regular printer paper size into the camera's view, the text will be alot smaller and probably alot harder for the phone to distinguish each individual letter.

But that's just my guess.

Re: OCR Recognition

I have been looking for an OCR for these phones for a while, however I have not found anything of significance. There is a OCR SDK out there, however that is about all I have found.

There is one thing though, Microsoft OneNote has a built in OCR, however that is OneNote for the home computer, NOT WM. However, if you take a picture you can transfer it to OneNote on your home computer and the OCR should work. Nothing that works on the phone though, at least as far as I have found.

BTW, Barcorama uses a function of OCR, so the technology is available and developing, but we might be on the leading edge here and the good stuff might be 6mo to a year out at this point.

Re: OCR Recognition

I have been looking up down and all around for OCR software for PPC myself. This already exists on Symbian based phones so it should not be out of the relm of possibilities for Winmo. Any heads up would be appreciated.
