Have a Epic4G?/Allow me to introduce myself...again.

BE WARNED.. THIS IS LOT TO READ BUT I THOUGHT SOMEBODY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.

This is probably my first post since a year ago... its been a minute.
I'm not a newbie and I'm not a techie either (well sorta...) When I rooted my first phone back then I had the AT&T Palm Treo 750, shortly after that the Sprint HTC touch pro...had lots of fun with it.

I was an active user in THIS FORUM and also in XDA forum. From there I sold myself to Palm Pre. You can bet I rooted the Palm Pre back at PreCentral forum as well.

I still carry it with me wherever I go even in it's unactivated state (it still works when I connect to wifi). And since I've had the Epic 4G more than 30 days now I still cannot give up webOS too easily.. and since I'm a Sprint "Premier customer" I am entitled to phone upgrades every year... So what the hey, right? For the first time I realize I have a collection and this...a totally different experience for me. I feel like I've grown into a geek. (I'm 28yrs old, married with 2 kids)

When compared, Android is more complicated to the user interface than window mobile and webOS. Tell you the truth... webOS provided to me the most productive tools than any other phone I had in my life. I decided I'll take my chances because I been waiting too long for an upgrade from Palm... the new Palm Pre 2 that came stock with 1ghz is no surprise to me since I can clock my original to 1ghz..

So I decided to keep the EPIC with me during the 30 day trial and guess what.. I'm in love with it but like the love triangle between webOS and Android.. both of them have unique features that sets them apart. Guess what it turns out that I still use those set of features that are not available in one or the other. I wish it did. Hoping more developers would put some work into building a Froyo Rom for the EPIC... I have little patience when it comes to being hungry for more. That's why I switched... now where is FROYO?!!
So far I've tried the Syndicate Rom as my first on the Samsung EPIC. its Fast!

Lastly, On the CON SIDE with the EPIC is that I bought more apps on webOS Palm App store than I can tell to my wife...but Android Market..its bullshit I can't even begin to express how difficult it is to download just 1 free app!!!

What kind of features/tools are you looking for exactly?

Overall though I do not think Android is harder to learn then Winmo..its just getting used to it.

As for Froyo..from what I heard it will come out by the end of the month officially...there is already a Froyo beta for the Epic but some devs are keeping it among themselves. And lastly a CM6 being worked on.

Boy I don't even know where to begin... you must experience the power of webOS to see it.. Owning a palm pre is like owning an iphone jailbreaking capabilities which Palm encourages us to do. Let's start with facebook... its buggy! Android's system been around allot longer years than palm's webOS system yet in 1 year they've managed to improve in a number of fixes in just 4 major updates since the Palm Pre was launched. Right now we're the new palm pre 2 will get webOS 2.0 that will count as 5. Everything we have now except a front facing camera, a snapdragon (or hummingbird) processor is not the only thing that sets it apart from the higher end phones.. its how the updates were implemented while the devs were at work trying to build apps and patches toward the user.. everything was fluid since day 1. So why am I still not getting face book notifications with Android?! How hard can it be to fix a bug on a Face book app?

it pretty much defeats the whole point of buying another smart phone with everything you could ask for only to end up with short-lived tech support from either your carrier or the maker of phones or the developer all together because new phones are coming out...it sucks. What I like about palm is that they work directly with the forums listening to their users... I don't know how they do it but if you want anything out of a stock Palm Pre you best head to Precentral.net (or the parent site treocentral.net) or right here at PPCgeeks but precentral was the main forum that we head first and grab a copy of W O Q I or Preware.

Re: Have a Epic4G?/Allow me to introduce myself...again.

another thing I wish we had on the samsung epic... the calendar unlike palm's calendar... dammit I'm not looking for WOWs it so easy on the eyes when looking at the pre.. but Android... who would agree the calendar could do better on the design department...? but what's really a deal breaker is the sync!!!! Did ANYONE NOTICE! on the evo you're able to sync 3 or more calendars and change your default if you wanted to.. EPIC...wtf?? Here's where my frustrations come... it syncs only 1 calendar. if my wife adds something for me to check out on her palm pre...dammit i gotta check my palm pre calendar because the epic doesn't let me see what she put on it!

I "think" it might be a froyo thing...

read here:

Multiple calendars and accounts sync - Google Mobile Help

You might be able to get a separate app to do it if its a hurry and you can't wait for Froyo :/

Also I do have a palm pixi lying around but only played with it for a minute..I do know that Palm is using an open standard for apps so any app that follows that standard can be used...so apps between MeeGo and WebOs can be cross ported for example...

The thing about Android is you can get anything if you look hard enough for it but also remember unlike palm/iphone which so far had 1 device..android has a lot of manufacturers with different components and the like...aka fragmentation as people call it..but at the same time Android is moving fast..according to google Android is still in Beta until it hits 3.0...so we are just live test subjects (remember how long gmail was in beta? lol)

You know it's funny how I look back and say to myself "that was back then" but still I retort to the use of older gadgets that I still consider as valuable? It's weird and I don't want split my hair over some technology that we make use of in our lives daily. Nice to know the palm pre can be cross platform with meego. I've heard about that but what I don't know is if it's possible that web os can dual boot with the epic. That would be a miracle if it did. Damn if it did I wouldn't buy another phone for a long long time.

I use Bloo version 1.5, it gives you facebook notifications. Although development seems to have stopped for the app, I only use it for the notifications.

See this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...highlight=bloo

I got it. But got lazy after going through the facebook authorization process... it's a pain. But in the mean time I check my notifications manually from time to time. Thanks.
