Extended batteries -read before buying eBay!
hey guys, ive been doing a little research on pricing and quality of after market extended batterys. Specifically about the ones on ebay. Because of the kind knowledgable folks here i am draining the battery faster then ever with all these cool new features im constantly taking advantage of that these guys helped me to unlock. i mount my phone to my motorcycles gas tank, my gps to my handlebars and my headphones around my neck and its great but kills my battery after an hour or so of continous use.
So i went looking for a battery on ebay and came across a TON of very cheap extended batteries ranging from 1800-2600mah with most selling around $10. I was suspicious so i did some googling. Most of the extended batteries on ebay ARE JUNK. Theyre listed as 1800mah to 2600mah but almost all of them are 1800mah no matter what they say. Now their are a few aftermarket battery makers that are good, they mostly dont sell on ebay though. Their 2 well known dependable makers that ive used; Seidio and Lion (play on Li-ion). They make extended batteries up to 3800mah but they are very expensive. A 2400battery made by them will last almost twice as long as a similar no-name. Heres a site with a die hard xv6700 user did some very extensive battery tests i'll list the results but he deserves the credit. Batteries Used: Seidio 3200mAh ext bat Seidio 2400mAh ext bat Lion - 2800mAh ext bat ‘eBay’ no brand 2400mAh ext bat (tests at 1800mah) OEM slim 1350mAh stock bat Test - Streaming live audio in Media Player over EVDO signal, backlight on full. Test to simulate ‘normal’ use. If you were using it constantly. Seidio 3200mAh : 8 hours Lion 2800mAh : 7 hours Seidio 2400mAh : 6 hours eBay 2400mAh : 3 hours, 30 minutes Stock OEM Battery: 2 hours, 30 minutes their was another test which was a maxed power use, overclocking, full everything with similar results between batteries. Now heres the thing the Seidio and Lion batteries are usually lot more expensive they start at $50 and up, and you can get the no-name 1800-2400mah batteries on ebay for around $15. But as you can see they only get you about 30% more life then a stock battery. Their is only ONE seller who sells a decent battery for our 6700's for under $20. Its the Lion ebay outlet. Now heres the best price/power battery ive found. Tthe Lion 2600mah battery for $15. Plus around $5-8 shipping depending where you live. This is the lower power Lion battery but its still a lot better then any of the sub $50 batteries on ebay or anywhere. Its cheaper then what the Lion batteries typically sell for. Hope this helps you guys! Last edited by buddhatikkigod; 06-13-2008 at 04:33 PM. |

Re: Extended batteries -read before buying eBay!
I just bought a Lion 2600mAh to replace my dying 2yr old Seidio 2400mAh. The only gripe I have about the (extended) Lion batteries is that they are squared off, which makes the back panel squared off, so my 6700 doesn't fit as snugly in all of my 6700 Go Go Gadgets. I probably would have stuck with the more expensive Seidio had I known that.....
Just in case anyone else is thinking about buying the Lion extended. |

Actually the Lion one i linked to does have the no-overcharge feature. "100% Brand New High Quality non-OEM Li-Polymer Extended Battery. Latest Lithium Polymer battery technology gives the best performance possible compared to other battery technologies such as Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH). Integrated microchip prevents overcharging & lengthens battery life. OEM Part No.: BTR6700 (BTR-6700) Voltage: 3.7V Amperage: 2600mAh " Also Weedahoe what was the point of your post? The purpose of this forum seems to me to be to educate, theirs a lot of people that come here quickly and dont spend the time researching. You dont always get what you pay for, thats kind of the point of this post and also another purpose of ppckitchen and upgrading our old ppcs. Last edited by buddhatikkigod; 06-13-2008 at 04:40 PM. |

Im not trying to take away from the education side of your post but only to reinforce it. As far as I am concerned, you gave your pros and cons and then your conclusional statement. Its not the first time those testing results have corssed paths there but I do agree most people are either lazy or true do not know what all info you can find on the net if you really look. Re: Extended batteries -read before buying eBay!
Amazon.com isn't that much of an improvement over ebay. I bought an OEM BTR6700 1350 mAh replacement from them two months ago. It worked well until last week when in started draining quickly under load. I could have blaimed 6.1 like others have done, but since I have changed no software, that didn't seem likely. Instead I looked for a more logical cause. I found one - The battery pack has a May 2007 date code. The thing sat on a shelf for a year before being sold to me.

Why not install a power outlet (cigarette lighter) on your motorcycle? Not hard really, and you won't have to worry about your phone dying. You can get universal ones at Walmart. Just make sure you run an inline fuse.

Re: Extended batteries -read before buying eBay!
Dagg... i was thinking of that. I might end up doing it.... I didnt want to go full on geek though with all my little gadgets
![]() just kidding... i only use the GPS feature while driving. I have my little bluetooth GPS mounted on my handlebars. Anyways WEEDAHOE and BLUBROWN your statements were pointless. Ebay already has the stigma of being a hard place to shop but its not entirely true. With a little knowledge you can get items for much cheaper then other places, if you have the patience to keep searching. As it is i have bookmarked a few items i search for daily, when i come across the best deal i think i can find i'll buy it. Example: I paid $3k for my 05 Honda Shadow Spirit because the seller just wanted to sell it quickly and get a harley. i paid $400 for my Asus G1S gaming laptop (15.4WUXGA+ T7300 Core Duo, nVidia 8600GT, 100GB HD, 2GB ram, DVD-RW etc.. selling it if anyone wants it for $800) because the seller (a return electronics wholesale) didnt have any pictures, i paid $50 for my original Dell AXIM X3I, it was from a pawnshop and the guy couldnt power it on. I paid $40 for a Sony PEG-UX50 because the seller thought that the dim screen was a problem... all he had to do was hold down the power button and the screen wouldve lit up. Theirs been many more instances where my knowledge of ebay and the time spent looking have saved me. Thats more the point of my post then saying most stuff is junk. With regards to the battery, for the price paid its not really that junky. You pay around the cost of an oem battery, sometimes less and you get about 33% more usage time. Not bad but not great. Or you can spend $50+ on a true aftermarket battery OR with a little searching (which i have done for you) you can find the diamond in the rough on ebay. You can get screwed but if you know what to look out for the odds are just as good as any other internet source. Last edited by buddhatikkigod; 06-17-2008 at 12:38 PM. |
