Interesting that these results are contrary to what others have experienced and show on sites such as YouTube...

I haven't seen a youtube video where the guy ran at least 5 test with both on stock settings on the same wifi network loading over 5 webpages and throwing out any anomalies in the numbers and doing it again, and then running a WebKit Javascript benchmark on both chips.

We know for a hardware fact the the IPC of the A4 is higher and the GPU is better (not that the GPU effects speed, but the IPC would).

If you have a youtube video this thorough I'd like to see it.

No, the pics we brought up on were not on my computer. I can find out if she deleted them though. Still want to do a video 720 p comparison, but I think the iphone4 may get that one, I was looking at a video I just did, and it isnt horrible, but it is a little washed looking from this bright sun, will have to see how the iPhone fairs under the glaring sun. They both suck in dim lighting with video, even when you download a camera flash lens flashlight program, but still pics on the Evo are definitely better than the video recording quality. Still have yet to do a comparison of video quality, maybe this weekend when I go out again, video comparing is what i definitely will have to post the difference for, if not drunk at that moment, lol.

I have not seen anything as "thorough" as this test nor have I seen any other benchmark testing. Just two YT videos and a real life comparison of my EVO with my friends new iPhone 4 on his WiFi network.

* Thorough is in quotes because we don't actually know the test that he performed, just what he said he did.

On another note, will this chip only be released for Apple products or does Samsung have plans of putting it into their own and/or other devices?

Re: personal story of "suck it, iphone"

That kind of benchmarking would be nice, plus if we were to do this over and over on different days it would probably differ especially from the network speeds, would have to make the average from it I guess. And now mlin, you have me asking that same question. Aren't the cpu and gpu of the galaxy s and iPhone 4 similar? I havent read or looked up anything yet on the galaxy s cpu but figured they are similar.

The Galaxy S uses a very similar chip with the same CPU and GPU, the configuration might be a little different as far as I know, so the 45nm technology the A4 utilizes should be present in the galaxy S with the hummingbird CPU, meaning it should also be faster than (arguably) and better graphics (now this we can probably agree on) than the snapdragon.

All of this is so hard to determine though. The faster iPhone/iPad loading could just be software related. I honestly think iOS is more streamlined and efficient on hardware than Android is, retesting with Froyo might yield different responses.

A good 2.1 Galaxy S vs 2.1 Nexus/incredible/Evo will give us better results.

Re: personal story of "suck it, iphone"

Yes, the snapdragon in current state does not meet the gpu power of the a4. Though there are two more generations of the adreno scorpion core waiting to be released with a phone. The 1.3 ghz and the 1.5 dual core both having improvements on the ardeno gpu and similar to cortex a9. But right now, snapdragon is not the best. Cpu processes numbers quickly, but whilst the gpu is not up to par with the a4 and probably not the hummingbird's gpu, going by what you have said, but still need to read up on it, just hope that HTC doesn't bork the later releases with those two updated adreno gpu scorpion cores. If so, sorry, bye bye HTC. I love the Evo, but just like any other phone, its really great in some things, but in other things, another phone would be better, especially for gpu intensive stuff. When playing games, I can see a huge difference, others may not, but I do, that's where personal needs come in, hence why I have 3 phones, albeit, 3gs is disconnected, don't like the bill. Wish it was on Sprint, lol.

Actually based on triangles per second and a few other GPU tests, the hummingbird CPU in the A4 and galaxy S, with enough power, is slated to outperform the scopion core as far as GPU goes.

I would venture that the iPhone 4 will outperform a scorpion running android grahics/games wise, but come up short general speed wise.

What will really be interesting is a scorpion running wp7 with silverlight and the GPU performance interacting with the OS, I predict that it will have mind-blowing graphics, better than iPhone games, but will not run quite as smoothly.

we'll wait and see though,
