Sprint drops Phone-as-Modem plan to $15 per month, adds stipulations

http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/s...adds-stipulat/

It's capped at 5gb and it's only on top of your existing data plan, but I still consider this a semi-decent improvement. It's not going to please those of us used to truly unlimited via WMWiFi or Internet Sharing but it's much better than the old $50/month plan. I would be more impressed if they just counted all data the same and charged $15 for the 5gb cap plan (phone or tether) and $30 for truly unlimited. It would allow people to decide based on casual or power user more than anything else.

The 5gb cap is there but Sprint does not charge for overages. They were entitled to put the 5gb cap but are not entitled to charge if you go over. Trust me I work at a kiosk and called to confirm this about 2 weeks ago for a customer.

Do you know if Sprint is enforcing the 300mb limit for data roaming? I just switched to Sprint from Verizon 2 months ago. I switched because Verizon has a hole at my job location. Iwanted phone service that would allow me to listen to internet radio thru my phone. Found out after switching to Sprint that I'm roaming at work. I won't go over 5gb in a month but I'm well over 300mb data roaming due to internet radio.

Not an expert on Sprint's evdo infrastructurne, but if they were to allow truly unlimited with tethering at evdo or rev a you might see very large numbers of people dropping broadband and using Sprint full time with large download amounts. They simply may not have the infrastructure in some areas to deal with this.

I am wondering about PAM for even $15. If you have a ppc there doesn't seem to be an impediment, other than a few simple registry edits or cheap third party software, to getting PAM without their plan at all.
