Re: the perfect phone??

just since we are on the topic of keyboards, I almost never use the keyboard on the X. I only use it to correct typos in speech recognition. I use Nuance at work and love it. I am surprised I dont see more people talking about that feature. I have been reading android blogs for a few month and i dont think I ever heard it mentioned.

Only because I use Nuance, not because I saw any tutorials (there should be a quick how to) did I know you can speak the punctuation. You can say "period", "exclamation point", "question mark" and "comma". "hi mom 'comma' how are you 'exclamation mark' and you get "hi mom, how are you?" I dont know if I ever would have tried that.

Re: the perfect phone??

The punctuation feature of this keyboard is very neat. It did not work on the first sentence of this post. It did work on the second , and the third.

Re: the perfect phone??

I have been switching back & forth between the newest TouchPal & Smart Keyboard Pro lately trying to decide which I like best.

I know exactly what you mean. I was happy with my TP2 as well and figured I would use both when I got my DX. Now its just mostly sitting in my drawer next to all the other WM phones I've had over the years.

jmorton10,

Where did you get those slick "Vibtrate" and "Silent" application
buttons that you have on your home screen?

All the Best!

Re: the perfect phone??

Thanks, I have been on the fence about changing from my TP2, I also found a great ROM and had been running it. I am up for a upgrade tomorrow. So yesterday I went in to a verizon store and tried the keyboard. I had a Dare and the keyboard on that sucked, I upgraded to the Omnia and it was better but still tough. When the TP2 came out with a physical keyboard I was so happy.

However after using the X keyboard yesterday I had no problems. So I was still on the fence if I wanted to jump from Windows to Android.

Well after your post and Bigs being in agreement I will be ordering my X tomorrow and should have it next Wednesday! I can't wait now.

Those are from the "beautiful widgets" setup.

Re: the perfect phone??

Agreed, this has to be the nicest phone ive ever had so far.
The main thing i like is the speed, and Texts not freezing up, that was the last straw for me when i would have to wait for 5-10 sec to finish typing a text to send it.

Where do we go from here. even though it is pretty earlier to say.

Im Lovin it =D>

where do I go from here? It took me 6 months to get my TP2 to this point, this was just entirely too easy........

WOW - awesome post! Thank you so much for sharing that...

I am so glad I found this, as I am a Touch Pro 2 owner as well, and just realized my annual upgrade is available. I have always had a WinMo phone, and literally identical to your description, this is the first time I have not only considered wanting to make a OS switch, but actually WANT to at this point!

I have always been a hardware sliding keyboard kind of guy... and until very recently, completely and instantly wrote off any phone that wasn't coming with a QWERTY. I have been eying the Droid 2 for some time now, salivating, and waiting until pre-sales go online........ BUT........ now I'm torn.

The Droid 2's specs are lackluster, in my opinion, and I only wish the Droid X has the keyboard. I am a very big cell phone 'photographer,' and love the ability to have something with crisp image quality to instantly upload and share my memories or scenic vacations.

So... based on your experience, would you suggest I finally take the plunge, and buy the Droid X (learning to love the virtual keyboard), or sacrifice the 3 megapixels and HD video (720p) in order to get a keyboard, and wait for the Droid 2 to launch on August 12th?

THANKS!

Sorry for my ignorance (see post above, I have been an WinMo user for years), but are you saying there is a voice recognition app for Droid that can actually type out Emails, text documents, text messages, and even posts on online forums such as PPC Geeks - like Dragon for computers!? How much is it, or does it come native in the phone? WOW - this is something that has me VERY excited. I have been putting off buying the Droid X for a short while now, because I feel "attached" to the keyboard on the forthcoming Droid 2... but with this bit of news, maybe I can have my magapixel-pie and eat it too!
