What is that backlight brightness adjusting application?

In the Touch HTC Home screen, where one can create shortcuts to applications, contains a backlight brightness adjusting application. It seems to have four steps. As you press the app button each time, the brightness cycles through one of the four gradiensts.

What is the name of the .exe and where is it located? More importantly, can the four graidents configured/adjusted? Is it a registry entry where the four brightness values are stored?

I'd appreciate some help.

Cheers.

Re: What is that backlight brightness adjusting application?

4 gradients? I guess you're using HTC Home plug-in, I don't, but we should both be able to see the Windows Mobile adjustment by tapping:

Start > Settings > System (tab) > Backlight

Here you'll see there's more than just 4 levels. The path asked for in subject header is:

\Windows\Backlight.exe

I've put this on the right softkey, using KeySwop by Vicott Wong, so I can crank up the backlight when outdoors, without needing to guess where the button is. One thumb on the lower right corner and then the thumb presses and holds the right directional edge of the navigation pad, until it's bright enough to read (or almost enough at max in the burning Florida sun).

Hope this helps, MrG

Yes, that is the .exe I'm looking for. Now, do you or anyone know how to change those gradient values? I would like to be able to change each brightness level to something other than the default values.

Thanks!

Re: What is that backlight brightness adjusting application?

Here is how I took care of the backlight adjustments after converting to Manila 2D ....

I copied backlight.exe from the windows folder into the /windows/Start Menu/programs folder. That made the backlight program available under all programs so I could make it a button on the programs tab on 2D. Now I can adjust for both battery and plugged in values... and there are 10 brightness steps for each. Probably not the best way to do this but it works flawlessly.

Please elaborate on the "plugged in values". I thought that application has four fixed values? Thanks.

Re: What is that backlight brightness adjusting application?

I think I said that wrong... what I mean is..."plugged in" to the charger... there are two separate settings... one for when you are using battery and another for when it is plugged in to the charger.

Hope that helps.

Can you give step by step instuctions on where the files are located? Im searching in my registry editor and cant even find the Windows folder.

Im using CeRegistry Editor

Thank you.

Re: What is that backlight brightness adjusting application?

Its not in the registry, just use a file manager like Total Commander and search for backlight. It is in the Windows directory.
