8-Way Directional

Is there anyway to turn the 4-way directional pad into 8? I am playing some games and would really like to move in a diagonal directions, but right I can't...

I doubt that this would be possible without a re-write of the drivers.

I here ya on the 8 directions, it would be nice for the nes and snes emulators

I don't know anything about programming, but would it be possible to create some sort of macro that recognizes up & left together as diagonal?
