upgrading software in rom

another dumb newb question- is there a way to upgrade software that was included as part of a custom rom? i'm assuming the answer is no, but figured i'd check...

It depends on what you want to upgrade and who your chef is...So, who's rom are you using, your carrier, and which phone do you have?

verizon xv6900, using OMJ's Verizon WM6.1 rom. want to update google maps and gpsToday which are baked in.

Just follow the tutorial in my sig line, Adding/Removing Programs.

Delete the two OEM's out of the \SYS directory, and drop the new versions into \OEMS. My tutorial below should help you with the details.

Most Roms.

You can't disassemble Vetvito's rom's as he uses the "Make your own rom!" rom protection,
and you can't re-compile a rom made with the ppckitchen.

Other than that...It's a great learning tool if nothing else. This is how most of the roms here are broken down, then rebuilt by various chefs.
