Touch keeps switching between 1x and EV?

I'm in an area with GREAT EV-DO coverage. I've had other phones (Sanyo MM-9000, Fusic, RAZR, 700wx, MotoQ) that never experienced this, and I've only noticed it on the Touch.

Sometimes the data symbol will flash to 1x sometimes, then go back to EV. It doesn't seem to matter how well my signal is. Since it only stays on 1x for a second, I can't test an incoming call or data speeds. It usually happens when the data connection is inactive.

The roaming symbol never appears either.

Anyone else experience this?

I also notice when I'm on a call, it automatically switched to 1x, then when I hang up it goes back to EV.

For me it also switches to 1x when you send a text message. Maybe that is what your are seeing.

It seems to do that as well, but I will also just be sitting here and see it switch back and forth without me doing anything.

Yeah it switches more often than the old phones did.

You're lucky though. For me, it switches mostly run I'm actively using data... locking me at 1X as soon as I start a decent-sized (1-6MB) download......

After looking at it closer it does seem to mostly be doing it when texting and on phone calls.

I'll have to watch it again tomorrow while I'm at work since I'm in an area with a lower signal there than I am at home.

I also noticed that when it switches, activesync and palm threaded sms launch on their own (in the background). I hate that.
