Metro PCS PRL Question

Hey guys i have a question or two about prls. i see that most of you are always updating yours and i cant figure out why. whats the advantage? Also how do i know if i need evdo or non evdo? Im running an Sprint HTC touch on the Metro PCS network. Thanks in advance.

I beleive when you dial *228 to update the roaming list, it downloads the latest Metro ROM. In EVDO area my phone and text works, but the internet doesn't so I set mine to only 1x in the EPST settings.
