How-To Get GPS/Rev A on Sprint Touch

My device is an ALLTEL HTC TOUCH - I hear conflicting stories -
is there, or is there NOT a built in GPS chip ( even though it may be locked out ) ?
I don't understand why some providers would have a GPS chip in available for use, while others would not - isn't the heart of the phone the SAME for each one that comes off the manufacturing line? People are posting threads about getting GPS to work on a device that I thought didn't have built-in GPS capability? I have google maps installed but of course the " use GPS " menu selection doesn't make anything happen. Don't mean to sound dumb ... just confused

All Vogues have built-in gps. Certain carriers(Verizon probably Alltel) crippled it so it would only work with their navagation apps. It can be unlocked though! I suggest you do a lot of research. NOTE: If you are running the old WinMo 6.0 rom then I suggest you DO NOT update to the shipped 6.1 rom for Verizon/Alltel because you will cripple your gps. If you are on the old 6.0 rom, you just need to upgrade to a gps radio (3.xx.xx) and I suggest unlocking/flashing a custom rom.
