Phone Settings Question (EVDO, 1X)

Whats up guys. I have a couple questions and I'm hoping the brains here can help me out.

I think that the battery issue that a lot of us have here is because of the whole switching back and forth between EV and 1x....well it appears that way for me. I have Mighty's ROM right now and in the phone/services menu, I have 5 options. Home Only (which is the default), Automatic-A, Automatic-B, Standard and Roaming Only. What are the differences?

Where I live, it seems that roaming and Home only are doing pretty much the same thing....one bar, sometimes 2. Just like a lot of people I hear from on here, the battery drain is horrible on the TP so I'm hoping that this is indeed the issue Im having.

Also, is it true that if you set your phone to Roam Only, you can actually be terminated from your Sprint service?

Any help would be appreciated....
