Multitouch exists rights now (no new hardware needed) with video

Take a look: http://www.fuzemobility.com/multitou...e-or-software/
On a Windows device pressing two points leads to a key press of a point in between those points. That means for games you can create a virtual key in between the two points that is mapped as pressing both buttons. It works right now on your device. Just press down with a sharp object (like two styluses) on two points and the point in the middle will be 'pressed'. It's not very easy to do consistently but it does work.
This means games can be created for multitouch as long as virtual keys are mapped for dual key presses.

Pretty sweet to see this being developed, it's pretty clever too, but not true multi-touch, pinch-zooming won't work ever, for example. Then again, the iPhone's capacitive screen doesn't allow true multi-touch either, it only picks up two points, instead of an infinitely many as multi-touch really should be. For the average person, it's enough, but I like to pick out flaws in things that people praise so much

I think it's a bit of false advertising, but it's still neat. I just don't see it as being tragically useful.

agreed it is not true multitouch but a game like guiatr hero can be made this way as long as the virtual key presses are in dead space.

Re: Multitouch exists rights now (no new hardware needed) with video

yeah i remember discussing this with a guy on some instinct forums a long while back. Last I checked, he made a mini app that let you resize a small box with two fingers, so my idea worked. Here's my post:

Quote:
If there is a line being drawn between two fingers, then there is code that finds the middle. I think if that code is ever needed to be executed, a flag should be raised. Some kind of global boolean variable, like, twoFingers = True. Then you create a temporary matrix that plots the points of where the fingers are, and if they show an increase in distance apart, maybe you can trigger a zoom IN function while if they show a decrease they can trigger a zoom out function. If only a single finger or no finger is found during this, it turns the twoFingers boolean to false.

when I say "fingers" i mean points at which the screen is being touched of course.
but it's true though. There is a code embedded in a touch screen OS that finds the center of two points, which means it measures the distance between the two points before finding that center. If you could simply find that center point, then find where the two points line up, and the distance between the two points, you have plotted the points on the screen that are being touched at once.

you just need virtual buttons between the points like this.

Re: Multitouch exists rights now (no new hardware needed) with video

If anyone wants to try out the Touch Pro Multi Touch capabilities with visual enhanced visual feedback, you need to check this out

http://freewareppc.com/games/pocketsand.shtml

tap and hold one point on the upper right hand side and touch another point on the lower left side and a particle beam of sand/fire/water/acid etc etc shoots across the screen (acid shots are cool)

multi touch has possibilities on this hardware yet
