belkin USB 2.0 insight

Just thought I would share something I found with my USB cables. Perhaps you all know this, but if not, maybe it could help you when getting a USB cord for your TP.

I bought a belkin 6' HI-SPEED 2.0 miniUSB cord to charge at home as well as the office.

Everytime I plugged it in, I would get a "Your device can go faster" message pop up. Sure enough, transfering files was much slower to my dismay.

I looked through my stuff and found another USB 2.0 cord and plugged that one in. No message. Transfer was fast again.

I thought my belkin cord might be defective so I bought a new one. SAME THING.

I went and got my original from my office and tried that. no message and everything was fine.

I then tested all of the mA output powers of each cord. The two belkin cords both output 400mA. The two other cords that did NOT give me the error message would output around 700-800 mA.

I looked closely to find that the only difference I could see is that the two cords that DID work have gold connections. The two belkin cords do not.

They are all advertised as HI-SPEED 2.0 cords, but the gold works. Perhaps the gold is unimportant, but thought I would share.

Re: belkin USB 2.0 insight

I think this deserves a little more attention, as you aren't the only one who has experienced this 'phenomenon'.

See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429536

I have no clue what a 3-core cable is, but if we could find out what is actually going on here, it would be helpful.

I've experienced something along these lines in regards to a Toshiba external 2.5" hard drive that powers itself exclusively off of one usb port. Out of all of the usb cables I have that I know work on any other device, only two of them will power up this hard drive, regardless of what port it is connected to on my computer.
