Rom
I was building a ROM and my mom asked what ROM stood for..... I had no idea! Anyone?

origional term is Read only memory, this was before the advent of firmware when software was embedded into the chips and there was no altering the information pre-written to them. firmware functions in a similar fashion in that it is read only most of the time, but there are methods to erase and re-write now.

The actual acronym is Read-Only-Memory. Differs from RAM (random-access-memory)
With rom you dont write to it constantly back and forth whereas you do with ram.
