Change from EV to 1X

I don't think this is normal, but I've noticed my phone can be at full bars and it will be stuck at 1X for a while then go back to EV. I've noticed it frequently on my TP & how it jumps back and forth. Any ideas why this might be happening? My other phones never did this, and my coverage of EVDO is pretty good here (Houston). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: Change from EV to 1X

Same here, when I send a text message the phone jumps to 1xRTT and then switches back to EVDO after the text is sent. I have strong EVDO bars where I live. I guess the phone is smart enough to detect that text messaging doesn't require EVDO so it sends it through 1xRTT? I'm sure that was a dumb way to look at it but oh well.

Re: Change from EV to 1X

Lipid is correct. Phone & SMS are ancient technology and still run on 1x to this day. The advantage of this is that you can still call and text while in BFE. EVDO is only used for internet/data/email. This won't change because 4G CDMA is WiMax and since WiMax is MIMO by nature that's when they'll run Voice/Text/Data all over the same connection. Then finally Sprint users will be able to talk/text and surf at the same time from their phone - after they get a newer compatible phone.

But this is why I find the rumors of a TouchHD being developed for Sprint so far fetched. CDMA 3G (EVDO) is at the end of life. Today the FCC approved Sprint to snatch up Clearwire so the rollout of WiMax nationwide using Clearwire and Sprint technology can begin. Granted this process will take atleast 12 months before major markets are covered, but why spend 6-12months developing a conversion of the TouchHD if it will be stuck on EVDO and be sold right before WiMax goes nationwide? It's pointless.

Crap, I ranted again. =(
