Alltel with vzw rom

Curious. Have a TP with Alltel rom. Still have Alltel plan. Won't go to Verizon plan till time to get a new phone. Flashed a vzw radio and everything is ok, except always roaming, never get EVDO, and signal strength is 1/2 what vzw tp's get standing righ tnext to me. As the phone is registered with verizon, why could I not just flash a vzw rom and expect to get better performance in my area?

Re: Alltel with vzw rom

I flashed the Verizon radio, 1.03.09V. Tried quite a few, that worked best for my area.

Re: Alltel with vzw rom

You may want to try a different PRL if it shows you are always roaming. Do a quick google search for PRL's and you should find a list.

+1 to that. you can do a *228 to update your prl too. also, you may need a hybrid prl. also...maybe you should call verizon and have them straighten your problem out.

I've got the same issue, *228 doesn't work, it fails. it would be awesome to have a hybrid prl.

Re: Alltel with vzw rom

I've tried prls to see what difference they would make. Found a hybrid alltel/verizon prl. Does not seem to make any difference for my area.

65084m - Current VZW "Alltel-Hybrid" PRL

If this article is correct, we may not have any real choices except go fully vzw or another carrier.

http://online.wsj.com/community/grou...g-connectivity

The search goes on. Got another year before we must make a change. Either new phones etc and stay Vzw, or change carriers. In a rural area, but ATT has two and putting up a third tower. Callled and got the local ATT store, not a retail outlet. Will try their suggestion later this year. Get a cheap Go phone and test this area for coverage.

Re: Alltel with vzw rom

I put PRL 65084m on my Alltel phone and basically nothing special became of it, its similar to the 4xxxxx series for me.

I did however put a PRL that was Alltel only(no vzw or sprint, 3xxxx series) and the roaming indicator came back up blinking. Also, my boss has VZW and his service is no better than mine it seems(samsung omnia). Tmobile has awesome service where I'm at but I'd rather not pay any more than I am for phone service.
