Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

This is basic stuff. that above pic shows you in setup > advanced routing which is advanced and not what is needed.

This is the easiest way to get you up and running.

subnet 255.255.255.0

under application & gaming > single port fwd
external port 3389
internal port 3389
both
to ip 192.168.1.5
check enabled

make sure your saving.

on your computer tcp/ip
ip 192.168.1.5
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
leave your dns
It wont let me leave the option selected to obtain DNS automatically. if i set the static it makes me choose a dns. unless i can leave them at 0.0.0.0 . but i had to reset the router anyway so i went back to forwarding the single port

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

Well then set it under setup > basic setup
76.85.229.110
76.85.229.111

Apparently your isp doesn't use dhcp

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

Also i dont know if it matters, the basic setup page of the router says ip is 192.168.1.1, but the starting IP address is 192.168.1.[100] allowing me to change the last 3... and my static IP is set to .5 wich is less then 100.. is that ok or should i change my static to like 105 or something (the linksys tech told me 5-99 were my options)

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

Ha ya your right its late for me. Set the 100 to 1 so your ip would be 192.168.1.1

You can change any of these numbers as long as they are consistent throughout your network and start with 192.168

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

also... the subnet mask for the router is listed as 255.255.248.0 and the subnet mask for the local network is listed as 255.255.255.0 (same as my tcp/ip) should i have my tcp/ip set to the same as the router or the local network like it is now?

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

I just checked my routers log... and i tried to connect my TP2 to the computer by entering the IP and nothing else and the log shows it as popping up... is there a way to figure out how far its going and where its getting rejected at?

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

anyone else have any ideas...

in the midst of changing settings around i somehow screwed up my xbox connection and i have spent about 2 hours trying to get that to work and its not... its like my xbox doesnt exist anymore. and people are telling me to download crap to make it work.. why the heck would i need something to make it work if it worked fine 3 hours ago? lol

Edit: system restore fixed this xbox working again.

Re: Remote Desktop Connection Still not working.... need help

ive just went to www.canyouseeme.org and tried to connect to my computer through port 3389 and it says connection timed out. but when i get on my routers log i can see the connection from my touch pro 2.... so its getting to the firewall but not getting past even though i have portforwarding set up. my firewall is still off.

so if my connection is getting to the router, and the router is set up to forward that connection to me desktop PC (assuming that its getting to my PC because technically it should be) my pc is set up to allow this to happen, so what else could be causing my computer to block this type of connection.
