You've got some answers on XDA now, looks like there is a way.

Here's an idea, HTC's next model has 2 or 3 user-programmable keys on the keyboard, with little mini-LCD/LED screens on the key to show you what function you have chosen

Re: TP2 Control key on physical Keyboard

I went through the same thing when I had the Fuze. Unfortunately it wasn't just a reg change on the Fuze, it required a change to the drivers. Tarkim on XDA developed an app to address this. Maybe Tarkim can create something for the TP2 as well.

Fyi, tried the app there and it didn't work. He's working on a port though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=228

some news - 1.3 most likely will have an ability to perform default key action, that is to say when you want to assign double click and long press for any key it won't lost its default behaviour on single click

Do you have the GSM or CDMA version? I have the Telus (CDMA) version and would really love to have this app!!!!

This is a complete key remapping utility and he has stated that version 1.3 will suport the Touch Pro2 both GSM and CDMA versions!

Re: TP2 Control key on physical Keyboard

I tested it out on a Telus TP2 and it works. It remaps some of the keys.

Here's what it changes on the keyboard.

Before After
FN >> Ctrl
Mail >>FN
\ >>>> ;
; >>>> \
/ >>>> :
: >>>> /

SYM key doesn't work.
