.thumbnail folder on SD Card?

I was in the Album application flipping through the 'Camera Shots' pictures and noticed some random pics that i had no idea how they got there? When exploring my SD card i noticed a folder under DCIM called '.thumbnails'...what is it? All of the pictures i've taken are saved under 100Media but i also found copies of them in the thumbnails folder...it even has copies of the pictures of all the different Touch Pro2 images used in the Android Startup Utility!

What is the purpose of this folder? how did the pictures get here? Is here a way to control which images get copied into it? I'd actually prefer none get copied, it really just wastes space....

Re: .thumbnail folder on SD Card?

Have you tried Android recently? Android uses it to display it on its album, i believe. All the "." at the beginning of a folder name are from Android.

correct, the folder is like a cache to speed up the display time in apps like gallery

Re: .thumbnail folder on SD Card?

ok that would be it i just started using it last week. Thing is i have some photos hidden/archived so they don't show up in the HTC Album but apparently Android cannot tell, is there a way to hide it from being automatically copied the folder?

the only thing i can think of off the top of my head is renaming the file extension ex: pic1.jpg to pic1.rar or something other than pic files, such as .png, .jpeg, .jpg...so on. lots of work if you have many pics... or just zip the folder containing the hidden files. you would still be able to view them, but would have to open the zip/rar file first. someone else have a simpler/better idea?
