Is it safe to use miniUSB cable for charging ?

I know that a regular dime-a-dozen miniUSB will fit, is it safe to use tho ?

Using a reg. mini USB cable forever, the one that came with it was not long enough.

My phone no longer works with the standard HTC charging cable. It only accepts miniUSB now for some reason

Sometimes one of the pins can be messed up inside the usb port on the phone from using a different charger, although it will still work there have been cases where people have noticed there original charger wouldn't work but an older one would... If you notice not all miniUSB's are the same shape, nor are all miniUSB's manufactured the same...
