mp4s not playing well

ok wtf. I cannot get any mp4s to play on this thing. I've about had it. Anybody know the bouncyballs videos? The ones that are meant to test smartphones? Yea those. It's encoded in h.264 with a codec of FFmpeg AVC (info pulled from tcpmp) at 25fps.

TCPMP stats (where i paused it)
Played Frames: 93
Dropped: 89
Played FPS: 1.075

My friend can play them fine on his samsung-not-so-special-something, and all I get is a single frame every 2-3 seconds. I've got TCPMP, Coreplayer, WMP, DivX, AND htc album. I've got the Enhanced D3D drivers and the gfxBoost program installed. I've increased buffers from a little to a f**kton, I've played with settings that I have no idea what they do (1 by 1). Nothing, zip zilch. I even spent money on a Class 6 sd because my first thought was just the old Class 2 POS I had couldn't be read fast enough. Nope.

btw CorePlayer doesn't even get a chance to play the files because it says it "cannot find file" and shoots me this: FFFFFFF8

any of you video people that may have missed this the first time around have any clue? I'm gonna try to get juggz to look take a gander maybe it's somethin with the rom that doesn't play well with mp4s
